Brief description
The two extremities of a serpent’s body, its head and tail, are indicative of the stark contrast, the
antithesis that its rich and varied meaning encompasses. Its venom can be a poison of death or the
medicine of life. The periodic shedding of its skin again suggests the death of the old and the birth
of the new, and is symbolic of resurrection. Through its exaggerated phallic shape it is an attribute of
masculinity and the sun. However, its enigmatic temperament, nocturnal habits and deep
connection with the earth, make it likewise, an attribute of femininity and the moon. |
