Brief description
The elaborate carving of this ring is a rare example of an art form that has largely been replaced by
wax casting and other production orientated techniques. Its inspiration arose from meditations under
the Banyan tree, whose many trunks and irregular lines of growth represent the family and its
extension, the community. The roots of the mythic world tree reach deep into the ground of the
primordial tradition. Its trunk is the cosmic pillar and its branches the religions of the world. The
forest’s regal trees are an intermediary between the animal/human and subtle spiritual realm. Sacred
forests and groves were places of worship and ceremony long before churches and temples. |
