Brief description
“The ability to fly and fulminate, to rise so as to dominate and destroy baser forces, is doubtless the
essential characteristic of all Eagle symbolism. As Jupiter’s bird it is the therio-morphic storm, the
storm bird of the greatest antiquity,” (Cirlot ) Being primarily active during the day, the Eagle is a
creature of the Sun. It is the lion of the sky, the sovereign beast reigning over the kingdom of the
heights. Its flight is of the spirit, of transcendence, of freedom and its sight is the ‘far’ seeing
prophecy. In this creation the Eagle’s features resemble the mythical Phoenix. This implies a
convergence of qualities, and the interpenetration of nature’s patterns. |
